lyrics

my mother’s mother’s mother
packed her bags and ran
to find a new town a new way of living
risked her life to create another
she had a good thing going with god
said a prayer so rare but it came true

this so-called miracle
drank away her daughter’s years
it was so sad, so lonely with no one around
disappeared into a house of mirrors

tinted memories smells like
stale popcorn and potpourri
under the bed she couldn’t find her self
stuck in a state of forlorn nostalgia

I know I tend to hold on too tight
I’m just afraid I’ll lose my grip
it’s far too much to carry on my own
what if I trip?
I must take care of the light she left
it’s still within me, I know

I woke up early the day before christmas
packed my bags and ran
to find a new town a new way of living
miles between an old life and another

I’m here now, a woman, a strong one
with a fucked up idea of love
but I’m working each day a little harder to heal it
trying to understand where I come from

I am my mother’s mother’s mother
